About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or Instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees such as paid leave and holidays. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Arts, Marketing or Communication and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for graphic design and program promotions; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of graphic design, web design, promotions and creation of visual media as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with graphic design and marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the University's non-credit programs and offerings.
  • Experience with design and layout of flyers, catalogs and brochures particularly for educational programs.
  • Experience in authoring and writing media content for websites, print media or public service announcements.
  • Experience in designing and creating promotion displays for job fairs and community events.
  • Experience working in a community college setting.

Responsibilities

  • Create, write, design and produce a variety of graphic artwork, including brochures, flyers, posters, catalogs, academic information, newsletters, direct mail and advertising material for the Wahiawa Value Added Product Development Center (WVAPDC).
  • Plan, design, create and maintain the WVAPDC website by managing content, course schedules, special promotions, faculty resources, WVAPDC intranet, calendars and other on-line resources for the WVAPDC faculty, staff and the target community.
  • Coordinates, monitors and approves work performed by contract vendors and suppliers including production of print materials and marketing supplies.
  • Schedule, organize and manage participation in community events including job fairs and public outreach forums.
  • Maintain relationships with community partners and referring agencies.
  • Work with WVAPDC faculty and staff to support instruction requiring graphic design, visual media or website design.
  • Assignments will be on- and off-campus as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assignments will include working outside of normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holidays as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
