About The Position

Under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Health Services, the Marketing & Multimedia Specialist – Public Health (MMS-PH)’s role is to increase visibility of the Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District (ATCPHD) within the community, improve public trust and educate the community on ways to live healthy lives. The MMS-PH assists the Public Health Department with handling media requests, creating publications, taking photographs, shooting and editing video. The MMS-PH is responsible for coordinating updates of the City of Abilene Public Health website, posts on Social Media sites, and working closely with the City of Abilene Marketing & Communications Department.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of a variety of software systems including Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, Canva, Sprout and other web design and social media management tools.
  • Knowledge of cameras and editing software (both still and video).
  • Knowledge of AP style of writing for publications.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing principles.
  • Knowledge of health information management, basic office skills, administrative principles, procedures and practices.
  • Skill to use graphic design and layout techniques.
  • Skill to self-motivate and effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines as well as multi-task to prioritize several projects.
  • Skill to use videography and non-linear editing.
  • Skill to create short-form video content.
  • Skill to proofread documents with attention to detail.
  • Skill to problem solve and troubleshoot using analysis and critical thinking to resolve issues.
  • Skill to use basic marketing skills to promote public health within the community and build trust with residents and community partners.
  • Ability to bring creative ideas and programs to the department by staying current with popular trends in Social Media campaigns.
  • Ability to effectively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to professionally communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to act as point of contact and lead for public health event planning committees.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and perform responsible administrative tasks.
  • Ability to perform clerical work with accuracy, speed and minimal supervision involving the use of independent judgment and personal initiative.
  • Proficiently use office systems such as Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and Internet-based applications such as Office 365.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

  • A valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.
  • HIPAA Compliance training is required within sixty (60) days of employment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours on an as-needed basis including mornings, nights, and weekends (although most work is Monday-Friday 8-5).
  • Ability to travel to other work locations.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with video, editing software, social media, and/or television programming is preferred.
  • An Associate’s degree with two years of related experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Arts/Graphic Design, Media Communications, Marketing, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the ATCPHD Senior Leadership Team (Director of Health Services, Assistant Director of Health Services, and Division Manager - Nursing) in all marketing and public relations aspects of the Public Health Department including special projects.
  • Assist as needed in preparation of materials and media needed for Health Advisory Meetings.
  • Prepare various forms of internal and external communication such as emails, memos, presentations and reports.
  • Develop marketing topics for education and awareness using social media; assists grant manager to maintain the Public Health Department’s website; prepares posts for approval and monitors and responds to social media inquiries.
  • Monitor daily activity on a variety of platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and others).
  • Work with ATCPHD senior leadership team and grants teams to plan content and create marketing materials in response to program needs and current events. Materials include but may not be limited to printed materials, posters, flyers and social media posts and videos/reels for various events.
  • Work closely with the City of Abilene Communication & Marketing team.
  • Ensures the department's media (internal and external) adheres to the city's branding and logo guidelines.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to attend various department events to take photos and videos and attend offsite meetings, trainings/conferences and outreach events.
  • Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
