About The Position

Sequence Bio is a Newfoundland and Labrador-based biotechnology company conducting genetic research to discover the true biological causes of disease. We collaborate with the people and medical professionals of Newfoundland and Labrador, and partner with leading pharma and biotech to help accelerate the development of better medicines for global unmet medical needs. We are seeking a highly motivated Marketing Communications Specialist to join our team. As a Marketing Communications Specialist, you’ll be responsible for building Sequence Bio's brand awareness and communicating the impact of our research. We're looking for someone who can effectively communicate our research to those it aims to help—from local study participants and medical professionals to global partners in drug development. In this role, you’ll find creative ways to turn complex topics into clear messaging that increases interest in Sequence Bio’s work. Requirements

  • Postsecondary education (bachelor's degree, diploma, and/or certificates) in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Early-career communications specialist with at least 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy, managing projects independently from conception to completion.
  • Strong capability in building a cohesive "corporate story"; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize technical briefs into clear, compelling messaging for diverse audiences (e.g., medical partners, participants).
  • Experience using market research and direct user feedback to inform communication strategies.
  • Proven experience planning, executing, and managing comprehensive marketing campaigns, including online and social media strategies.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in digital asset creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Translate complex genetic research into clear, compelling communications for research participants, healthcare providers, and global partners.
  • Maintain a consistent brand voice across all touch points, ensuring Sequence Bio’s mission and ethical commitments are central to every message.
  • Develop and manage a multi-channel content calendar, including social media, earned media, email newsletters, and website updates.
  • Write, edit, and proofread high-quality copy for press releases, corporate presentations, and participant recruitment materials.
  • Coordinate with external vendors or internal teams to produce visual assets (graphics, photography, or video) that support key initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on the performance of communication efforts (e.g., social engagement, email open rates, website traffic) to optimize future campaigns.
  • Manage internal communications to ensure all staff are informed of company milestones and can act as effective brand ambassadors.
  • Provide on-the-ground communication support for community town halls, events, and industry conferences.
  • Protect all data in accordance with the company’s policies and work proactively and collaboratively with the security department.
  • A commitment to flexible working hours during peak project deployment is required.
  • Willing to take initiative; create and take on new responsibilities as our company continues to grow.
