About The Position

The Marketing & Communications Manager is a key member of the Development Team responsible for amplifying HopeSparks story of impact to donors, partners, policymakers, and the community. This person develops compelling content across digital, print, and advocacy platforms, stewards the HopeSparks brand, and builds strong connections with diverse audiences. In collaboration with the Development Director, CEO, and Program Teams, this role helps shape and implement the organization's communications strategy, ensuring consistent, inclusive, and trauma-informed messaging across all channels both internal and external. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player who thrives in a creative, mission-driven environment, understands how to leverage today's social media platforms to reach diverse communities, and is committed to storytelling through a trauma-informed lens. This role also supports internal communications, ensuring consistent messaging that strengthens organizational culture and keeps team members connected to HopeSparks mission. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, or development.
  • Demonstrated ability to use social media strategically to reach and engage diverse communities.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio of work.
  • Experience with email marketing tools, content management systems, and basic design/video production.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented, and mission-driven, with the ability to work across departments.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed communications and sensitivity to the lived experiences of children and families served.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating content across multiple social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
  • Proficiency in design and content tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (or another language commonly spoken in our community).
  • Familiarity with video editing, photography, or storytelling through short-form media.
  • Experience working with community-based or family-serving organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and share client and program impact stories with care and sensitivity, using a trauma-informed approach.
  • Ensure all communications are culturally responsive and accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Design, write, and edit newsletters, annual reports, website content, donor communications, and press releases.
  • Collaborate with program teams to create videos, photos, and multimedia content.
  • Support the Development Director, CEO, and program leaders with internal messaging that keeps team members informed and connected to HopeSparks mission.
  • Develop talking points, team updates, and internal newsletters to strengthen organizational culture and communication.
  • Ensure consistency of voice and alignment between internal and external communications.
  • Provide writing support for grants, reports, and proposals.
  • Translate program data into compelling narratives for funders and stakeholders.
  • Partner with the Development Director and CEO to develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan aligned with organizational and fundraising goals.
  • Develop legislative one-pagers, fact sheets, and policy briefs.
  • Support advocacy initiatives with clear, accessible messaging.
  • Develop and manage content for all social media platforms, tailoring messaging to engage diverse audiences.
  • Plan and execute email marketing campaigns.
  • Track and analyze digital engagement to guide strategy.
  • Monitor and report on key metrics (e.g., engagement, reach, conversions, media coverage) to evaluate impact and inform continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all communications reflect HopeSparks brand, values, and voice.
  • Lead production of the Annual Report, donor impact reports, and other key publications.
  • Support development of creative marketing and campaign materials.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local media and community partners to expand visibility.
