About The Position

The Career Center seeks a Marketing and Communications Coordinator committed to supporting the professional development and career readiness of college students. This dynamic role calls for a proactive, self-directed professional who can manage multiple projects and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail, and who takes initiative in generating ideas and driving projects forward. Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills are essential. The Coordinator executes creative, front-line marketing and communications for the Career Center — including career programming, job and internship fairs, and employer and alumni engagement activities — while supervising and mentoring student interns. This position reports to the Career Center Marketing and Communications Specialist.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Two (2) years of full-time professional experience working in communications, marketing, or public relations (student experience may be considered).
  • Experience creating content for web, email, and social media platforms.
  • Occasionally moves materials, equipment, or cameras weighing up to 50 pounds across campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
  • Experience advising or supervising college students.
  • Experience with video production and video editing, photography and/or interactive media.
  • Experience with digital marketing and communications strategies.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud or similar design platforms.
  • Experience developing social media content.
  • Supervisory experience (supervision of students may be considered).
  • Experience interacting with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Working with a team of interns to support marketing/outreach.
  • Assist in the development of social media strategy in collaboration with the intern team.
  • Assist in the development and production of online, print, web, and video content.
  • Generate marketing material/collateral.
  • Ensure content of the Center’s website is up to date; write new content, edit existing content within CMS.
  • Generate activity reports to analyze marketing effectiveness.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising undergraduate and graduate marketing, graphics, and communications interns.
  • Liaise with faculty sponsors to support student achievement of learning objectives.
  • Assist in disseminating internal communications with key messages and talking points.
  • Develop cooperative relationships within the Stony Brook community and externally to identify opportunities that advance major career development & experiential education news and accomplishments.
  • Participate in College and University-wide initiatives to enhance Career Center visibility and awareness throughout the University and beyond.
  • Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, and programs).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

  • FLSA eligible for overtime provisions
  • $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly
