About The Position

The Market Monitor internship will consist of 10 – 12 weeks of fulltime market monitoring work in the Southwest Power Pool independent Market Monitoring Unit. Teaming activities may be scheduled after hours throughout the internship. The intern will deliver a presentation at the end of their internship to demonstrate lessons learned and knowledge gained.

Requirements

• Competent with administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development, time keeping, etc.
• A college student entering their Jr. or Sr. year working toward a Bachelor’s degree in economics, math, computer science, engineering or other related field.
• 3.0 GPA or above
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word
• Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

• SAS

Responsibilities

• Develop fundamental understanding of electricity markets and gain knowledge of software (SAS, SQL, Tableau) associated with area of responsibility.
• Complete specific assignments including market power studies, behavior of specific power plants, potential market rule changes, and financial analysis of market performance on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis.
• Provide basic technical support to help project groups meet aggressive time schedules.
• Incorporate a fundamental working understanding of the SPP Culture Drivers, Mission and Core Values and apply this directly to all assignments and any SPP MMU related effort.
