About The Position

The Market Leader works closely with the Division Vice President to foster a service culture that supports Macy’s initiatives and an exceptional customer experience within a designated market. This role leads store managers and collaborates with regional and support teams to drive sales and profitability, build a high-performing, engaged organization, and ensure seamless execution of merchandising priorities, a friction-free customer experience, enhanced selling capabilities, and customer loyalty. This role is a developmental, time-bound position designed to prepare leaders for potential placement as a Division Vice President. It is limited to a 24-month period and requires mobility for nationwide opportunities. By or before the end of this 24-month term, you must be deemed ready for advancement to the designated next-level role, as determined solely by the Company’s judgment and discretion.

Requirements

  • Leadership and Team Management: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and develop Store Managers in talent acquisition, performance management, and succession planning, driving a high-performing and engaged team
  • Sales and Profitability Management: Expertise in driving sales and profitability goals through effective planning, expense management, and inventory control
  • Customer-Centric Focus: Ability to foster positive, customer-focused interactions by blending technology and a personal touch to enhance the customer experience
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Proficiency in developing and executing strategies, with the ability to manage both short- and long-term plans effectively
  • Effective Communication: Strong communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly in one-on-one and small group settings, and build relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Operational Efficiency: Expertise in maximizing sales and gross margin productivity per square foot while ensuring smooth operations and execution of priorities
  • Advanced MS Application Proficiency: High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and SharePoint for reporting, planning, and presentation
  • Negotiation and Influence: Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes effectively
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply
  • 7-10 years of related experience
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel
  • Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms
  • Requires close vision
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs
  • Able to travel 50%

Responsibilities

  • Lead Store Managers in talent acquisition, development, succession planning, and performance management
  • Guide Store Managers to achieve sales and profitability goals through effective short- and long-term planning, expense management, and inventory shortage control
  • Foster positive, friendly interactions by blending technology with a human touch, demonstrating strong digital and fulfillment capabilities
  • Celebrate team success by providing continuous feedback to both teams and peers
  • Mentor Store Managers in utilizing technology to optimize inventory management across all channels, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable one-on-one customer experience
  • Develop strategies for events and ensure compliance with regional operations standards
  • Maximize sales and gross margin productivity per square foot
  • Build a sense of community through events, entertainment, and volunteer activities
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
