About The Position

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a temporary position in the Market Development Division. This position (PIN #04000029) is in state government, located in Oklahoma. The hourly pay for this position is up to $30/hour based on education and experience. Position Description: Employee will be responsible for planning and execution of multiple special projects including but not limited to the Made in Oklahoma Store at the Oklahoma State Fair, vendor shows throughout the year, and other special projects designed by the Market Development Division. This position will work throughout the state of Oklahoma. Duty station will be determined upon hire. Level Description: The specialist level of the job family is where incumbents are responsible for independently performing professional level coordination activities for agency program(s) or project(s) that are complex in nature. This may include coordinating multiple programs or projects that are inter-related or have unique program or project requirements, components, or exceptions that must be addressed. Incumbents may assist or train lower-level staff.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree and two (2) years of relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience substituting one (1) year of the required education for one (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Relevant work experience must include retail merchandising, budget management, project planning, and event execution.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management; of federal and state laws and regulations relating to the administration of assigned program or project; of agency and state financial and operational rules and procedures relating to budgeting, purchasing, contracting, grant administration; of team or group dynamics; of establishing deadlines on tasks and program or project completion; of Quality Management principles and practices; of research techniques related to the assigned program or project; and establishing working relationships across multiple state and federal agencies and partners and other stakeholders.
  • Skills in report writing; in presenting information to individuals at all levels in small to large settings; in editing reports and presentations; in establishing and maintaining effective relationships; in managing competing priorities within the program or project; in producing work flow processes; in writing Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs); in identifying barriers causing delays in deliverables and service delivery; in reviewing internal practices and procedures to identify operational efficiencies and inefficiencies; in gathering and analyzing data; and in maintaining program or project documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate activities and resources; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to exercise good judgment in situation analysis and decision making; to plan, direct, monitor, and review work others; to analyze data and apply it effectively to the program or project; to apply the principles and practices of team dynamics to ensure completion of tasks and the program or project; to work independently or within a team environment; to communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of audiences when presenting complex information; and to think strategically to allow for program or project change.
  • Driving to and from events requires a valid driver’s license.

  • Preference may be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in state budgeting, purchasing, contracting, project management, or other relevant working experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work with partner organizations and Market Development staff to plan, coordinate and execute vendor shows and other events. Tasks include: budgeting and planning; design and setup/take down; onsite management; participant application and coordination; communication and marketing; and event evaluation.
