About The Position

The Market Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic financial leadership for a designated Surgery Partners market, partnering with facility, operational, physician, and corporate leaders to drive financial performance, support strategic growth, and ensure long-term financial sustainability. This role oversees financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, performance management, and financial controls, while delivering actionable insights, strengthening financial discipline, developing finance talent, and supporting the achievement of market and organizational objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive financial management experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with executive and operational leadership.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare operating metrics and the relationship between operational performance and financial results.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial information, identify trends and opportunities, and translate findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or other advanced business degree preferred.
  • Experience supporting strategic growth initiatives, acquisitions, physician transactions, service line development, and capital planning preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive financial leadership and oversight for the assigned market.
  • Lead the preparation, accuracy, and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
  • Lead the development, execution, and reporting of the annual strategic plan and operating budget.
  • Oversee monthly financial forecasts and projections, ensuring accuracy and timely identification of trends.
  • Monitor market and facility performance through key financial and operational metrics, including volumes, revenue, expenses, labor, cash flow, and operating performance.
  • Identify financial and operational variances, develop corrective action plans, and partner with operational leaders to drive sustainable improvement.
  • Provide actionable financial insights and recommendations to market and facility leadership.
  • Partner with market and operational leadership to develop and execute strategic business plans.
  • Lead financial analysis and development of pro formas supporting acquisitions, physician practice transactions, service line expansion, capital investments, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Support due diligence and financial evaluation of potential acquisitions and growth opportunities.
  • Conduct post-investment and acquisition performance reviews to evaluate expected versus actual financial outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and oversee the market's capital expenditure plan, ensuring investments align with strategic priorities and financial objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, revenue growth, and resource utilization.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor and strategic business partner to market and facility leadership.
  • Partner with Hospital CEOs, Market/Regional leadership, physicians, and other operational stakeholders to drive financial and operational performance.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Revenue Cycle Management, Accounting, Treasury, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Physician Practice Operations, Payer Contracting, and other corporate functions.
  • Support initiatives related to labor management, revenue optimization, expense management, physician alignment, and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in strategic committees and organizational initiatives as requested.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for operational leaders.
  • Ensure compliance with Surgery Partners financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Maintain strong financial governance and accountability throughout the market.
  • Ensure required financial reporting, regulatory submissions, and other mandated requirements are completed accurately and timely.
  • Monitor compliance with capital approval processes, contracting standards, and other applicable organizational requirements.
  • Identify financial risks and partner with appropriate stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing market finance organization.
  • Provide leadership and direction to finance leaders and team members across the market, which may include Hospital CFOs, Directors of Finance, and Financial Analysts.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional development.
  • Identify and develop emerging finance leaders and maintain succession plans for key finance positions.
  • Ensure finance teams consistently meet reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and operational deadlines.
  • Promote consistent financial practices and processes across the market.
