About The Position

Implements and coordinates business unit safety programs required for compliance with OSHA regulatory requirements, company safety policies, and procedures. This role involves managing and consulting with Market Area and Site leaders on various safety programs including Drive Cam System Management, Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention, Incident Management, District Specific Safety Plans, Hazardous Energy Control Programs, DOT/OSHA regulations, WM/Customer Facilities Compliance, Contractor/Vendor Safety, Employee Health Management, and Personal Protective Equipment Management. The specialist will also be involved in people development related to safety, employee observations, and safety committee engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited), or in lieu of degree High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • 3 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)

Responsibilities

  • Manages and consults with Market Area and Site leaders on Drive Cam System Management, including analysis, reporting, coaching, and interventions.
  • Aligns Job Safety Briefing to support SIF protocols and manages, trains, and advises Site Leadership on the implementation of Corrective/Preventative action (CAPA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) items.
  • Works with Area Safety Manager/Director to gather and collate data into the EH&S portal, conducts/reviews root cause analysis, ensures follow-up action plans, and disseminates lessons learned.
  • Works with Safety and District leadership to analyze incident trends and ensure District Specific Safety Plans (DSSP) are in place and operational.
  • Facilitates site-level compliance with the Hazardous Energy Control Program (HECP) and protocols, potentially conducting training and coaching.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, State/Provincial DOT/OSHA regulations and works with Subject Matter Experts to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Ensures site/safety management systems are in working order, reviews new equipment installs, and ensures inclement weather/natural disaster preparedness plans are in place.
  • Conducts safety audits/inspections and assists with commercial insurance management issues.
  • Monitors contractor/vendor safety programs and communicates changes in regulation requirements.
  • Works with Site Leadership on monitoring the physical environment for potential issues and monitors/interprets Industrial Hygiene Program results.
  • Reviews and revises PPE needs, audits processes for correct PPE usage, and implements site-specific PPE Programs.
  • Attends employee coaching conversations, consults on intervention plans, verifies program status, audits training records, and coaches Site Leadership on safety training delivery.
  • Verifies/audits OJT/Onboarding activities and trains Site/District resources on OJT and safety-specific onboarding.
  • Coaches market area leaders on safety trends from EH&S Portal, DriveCam, and SIF data for effective employee observations and coaching.
  • Participates in corporate and site-level safety committees.
