About The Position

Universal Rail Solutions is seeking experienced Mark IV Tamper Operators to join our growing team. This is a specialized railway production role requiring hands-on experience operating a Mark IV Tamper, not general heavy equipment experience. This position requires travel throughout Western Canada, with assignments ranging from 5 to 21 days at a time, depending on project and shift requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum one season operating a Mark IV Tamper on a railway production gang.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and efficiently perform tamping, lining, and surfacing operations.
  • Experience working in railway maintenance or construction environments.
  • Strong understanding of railway safety requirements and operating procedures.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (non-GDL) or equivalent.
  • Clean driver's abstract.
  • Must maintain any licences or qualifications required to operate assigned equipment such as CROR and TIGs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout Western Canada.
  • Available to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and extended project schedules.
  • Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and meeting fit-for-duty requirements.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check.
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing and fit-for-duty assessments.
  • Obtain and maintain all required eRail Safe certifications and credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operating a Mark IV Tamper in accordance with railway operating rules and company procedures.
  • Performing track surfacing and alignment activities to support railway maintenance and construction projects.
  • Conducting daily inspections, servicing, and basic maintenance of equipment.
  • Identifying and reporting mechanical issues that may affect machine performance.
  • Working closely with supervisors and crew members to ensure production and quality targets are achieved.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned.
