About The Position

The Lead Piping Designer is responsible for leading the design and development of piping systems for vessel construction and repair projects. This role ensures that all piping arrangements, drawings, and production packages are accurate, buildable, and aligned with engineering design intent. The Lead Piping Designer supports production by developing detailed drawings, coordinating with engineering and production teams, and ensuring compliance with shipbuilding standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in shipbuilding or marine piping design
  • Strong experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, and ShipConstructor
  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Extensive knowledge of piping systems, connections, and layouts
  • Ability to design and check piping arrangements, spool drawings, and related equipment
  • Understanding of ABS and U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations
  • Strong knowledge of shipyard fabrication methods and best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with ability to mentor junior designers
