About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Marital & Family Therapist to join the Strong Behavioral Health Older Adult Service. This role involves providing psychosocial assessment, psychiatric diagnosis, and treatment for older adult patients (65+). The therapist will be responsible for assessment, safety planning, individual, couples, and family therapy, and overall treatment plan coordination. This position is part of an interdisciplinary treatment team and requires developing liaisons with community health and social agencies, as well as internal health professionals. The role also includes crisis intervention as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related field and major course work in marriage and family theory and practice
  • NYS licensure as Marriage and Family Therapist upon hire required or if licensure has not been obtained upon employment, an active limited permit or submitted application to the NYS Department of Education upon hire required and NYS licensure as Marriage and Family Therapist within 36 months.
  • Sound working knowledge of models of family therapy
  • Ability to implement evidence-informed psychotherapeutic interventions
  • Commitment to and routine demonstration of biopsychosocial approach to care of individuals and families

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychosocial assessment and psychiatric diagnosis and treatment for older adult patients 65 years of age and older.
  • Provide assessment, safety planning, individual, couples, and family therapy.
  • Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the treatment plan for patients assigned to his/her caseload.
  • Participate on an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Develop liaisons with health and social agencies in the community, as well as with other health professionals within the hospital to support evaluation and treatment of the patient.
  • Provide individual and family treatment, and crisis intervention as appropriate.
  • Perform complex psychosocial assessments and diagnostic formulations for patients and their families.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive and individualized treatment plans for patients and families with clearly defined therapeutic goals.
  • Conduct individual, family, couple and systems-oriented and evidence-based psychotherapies.
  • Assess successful completion of therapeutic goals and plan termination of therapy accordingly.
  • Meet minimum target for clinical productivity set by service director and Division.
  • Document treatment in patient's electronic medical record in compliance with Program, Department and Hospital regulations.
  • Attend clinic staff and team meetings.
  • Participate in all required Departmental and programmatic diversity trainings and professional development.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of, and follow, all Discipline, Geriatric Division, and Department of Psychiatry Mental Health and Wellness Services policies and procedures, as well as those delineated by OMH.
  • Maintain professional standards and continuing education by reading, attending seminars, workshops and conferences, and staying up to date for the NYS requirements for maintenance of licensure as appropriate.
  • Engage in annual and periodic performance review process with Program Director, supervisor, and clinical chief, where relevant.
