About The Position

Boater's World Marine Centers is seeking an experienced, well-rounded Marine Technician to join our growing Service Department in Grand Prairie, Texas. This is not an entry-level technician position. We're looking for a highly skilled technician with 3–5+ years of marine dealership experience who is comfortable diagnosing, repairing, and servicing both outboard and inboard propulsion systems. The ideal candidate has strong diagnostic abilities, enjoys solving complex mechanical and electrical problems, and takes pride in delivering quality workmanship the first time. Our Grand Prairie location services a wide variety of boats and engine platforms, providing technicians with diverse work and year-round opportunities. Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of professional marine technician experience, preferably in a dealership environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting experience with both outboard and inboard marine propulsion systems.
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex mechanical and electrical concerns.
  • Experience servicing Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, or similar marine engine platforms.
  • Strong understanding of marine electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering, hydraulic systems, and onboard accessories.
  • Experience performing rigging, repowers, engine installations, and accessory installations.
  • Comfortable using OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, multimeters, and manufacturer service information.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Current OEM certifications preferred but not required.
  • Multi-brand marine dealership experience.
  • MMI graduate or equivalent marine technical education.
  • Experience with sterndrives, inboards, and high-performance marine systems.
  • Experience using Lightspeed or similar dealership management software.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, hydraulic, and performance-related issues on both outboard and inboard powered boats.
  • Utilize OEM diagnostic software, scan tools, service manuals, and manufacturer troubleshooting procedures.
  • Interpret fault codes, engine history, live data, compression results, and electrical testing to accurately identify root causes.
  • Perform water testing and sea trials when necessary to verify concerns and confirm completed repairs.
  • Complete repairs according to manufacturer specifications while maintaining high quality standards and minimizing comebacks.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, inspections, preventative maintenance, and seasonal service.
  • Service and repair gasoline inboard, sterndrive, and outboard engine platforms.
  • Repair fuel, cooling, ignition, steering, charging, trim, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Inspect vessels for additional maintenance or repair needs and communicate recommendations through the Service Advisor.
  • Perform complete rigging, repowers, engine installations, and accessory installations.
  • Install steering systems, controls, gauges, wiring, batteries, electronics, trolling motors, Power-Poles, jack plates, and other marine accessories.
  • Verify proper engine setup, rigging, control operation, and overall vessel performance before delivery.
  • Ensure all installations meet manufacturer and dealership quality standards.
  • Accurately document diagnostic findings, repairs, labor operations, and recommendations within the dealership management system.
  • Maintain complete repair order documentation that clearly identifies the concern, cause, and correction.
  • Follow manufacturer warranty procedures and dealership repair processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
  • Work closely with Service Advisors and Parts personnel to ensure efficient workflow and customer satisfaction.
  • Support fellow technicians by sharing technical knowledge and assisting with difficult diagnostic situations when needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional, and team-oriented service department.
  • Maintain productivity while delivering exceptional workmanship and customer satisfaction.
