Requirements

  • Strong technical skills including accredited post-secondary education in mechanical engineering and/or technology discipline (Diploma/Certificate or higher level)
  • Eligible or currently registered with a Provincial professional governing body such as Engineers and Geoscientists BC or Applied Scientists Technologists and Technicians BC as an Engineer-in-Training or Graduate Technologist or are currently eligible for registration
  • 4+ years of experience in design or maintenance of marine systems such as hydraulics, high pressure air, diesel, and propulsion systems (submarine-specific experience is desirable)
  • Strong communication skills; written and verbal
  • Strong computer skills; including MS Office suite
  • Drafting experience with AutoDesk and Dassault Systems products
  • Experience with tasks requiring attention to detail
  • Experience working in a shipyard and knowledge of shipyard safe work practices
  • Have the physical ability to climb and descend ladders and stairs to access work areas.
  • Have the physical ability to walk and/or stand for extended periods.
  • Have the physical dexterity to allow for working in confined spaces and areas with limited room for movement.
  • Is comfortable working on scaffolding at heights and around water.
  • Is comfortable working in an industrial environment and around moving equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.).
  • Eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems - Team Lead and contribute to the successful delivery of technical deliverables.
  • Prepare deviations and waivers for submarine mechanical equipment;
  • Draft, and review repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities;
  • Draft and review manufacture drawings for the fabrication of components and assemblies;
  • Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to both internal and external customers;
  • Be responsive to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard environment;
  • Provide oversight on complex fault diagnostic activities and system operations; and
  • Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities.
