About The Position

RINA is currently recruiting for a Marine Surveyor to join its office in Montreal within the North America Marine Division. The Marine Surveyor will act as a key technical focal point for marine warranty, hull and machinery, P&I, flag state, and cargo-related surveys across Canada. The role requires strong marine experience, coordination skills, and a commitment to technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Engineering or Engineering General
  • Marine Chief Engineer rank and certification strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Marine Warranty Surveyor, P&I correspondent surveyor, or H&M surveyor is considered a significant asset.
  • Proven experience coordinating with classification societies, flag states, and offshore contractors.
  • Excellent written and spoken English proficiency.
  • Strong reporting, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to respond on short notice to client needs across Eastern Canada in a 24/7 service capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveys and certification on behalf of public and governmental authorities.
  • Perform P&I (Protection & Indemnity) surveys.
  • Perform Hull & Machinery (H&M) surveys.
  • Conduct Flag State surveys.
  • Carry out Vessel Condition surveys.
  • Execute Sale & Purchase (S&P) surveys.
  • Perform On Hire and Off Hire surveys of ships, barges, and floating construction equipment.
  • Conduct Towage approvals.
  • Perform Bunker surveys.
  • Execute Draft Surveys.
  • Carry out Cargo Damage surveys.
  • Survey various types of maritime equipment, machinery, cargo-handling equipment, and cargo products.
  • Perform Marine Warranty Survey activities for offshore operations, including transportation, installation, and project cargo movements.
  • Ensure full compliance with marine warranty requirements, class rules, and project specifications.
  • Review and approve marine procedures, methodologies, lifting plans, towage approvals, and risk assessments for complex marine operations.
  • Produce accurate, concise, and technically sound survey reports.
  • Manage clients' queries on a daily basis in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain effective reporting, communication, and cooperation with clients, colleagues, and authorities.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between clients, contractors, legal representatives, and flag states for all marine-related matters.
  • Contribute towards the further development and growth of RINA and Hayes Stuart.
  • Demonstrate a high level of effectiveness, dedication, and professional commitment.
  • Support the safe execution of marine operations in full accordance with project specifications, class rules, and international regulations.
