About The Position

MacGregor is seeking a Service Engineer with Hydraulic and Electric competence to perform repair, maintenance, and service on critical marine equipment, including shipboard cranes, ship machinery, and winches. The role requires a hands-on expert with a primary discipline in hydraulics and electrics, and a basic understanding of mechanical systems is beneficial. The position involves working offshore, at local shipyards, and ports worldwide, with expectations for flexible working hours. The engineer will be responsible for diagnostics, troubleshooting, refurbishment, upgrades, inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective actions on equipment. They will also identify service and spares sales opportunities, support service goals and budgets, and prepare detailed service reports. All activities must comply with the Integrated Management System (IMS), QHSE, and MacGregor standards. The position reports directly to the Operations Superintendent and is based in Houston, Texas.

Requirements

  • Background in the offshore or maritime industry, with a primary focus on hydraulic, mechanical and electric equipment.
  • Minimum 5 years of hydraulic and electric experience
  • Willingness and ability to travel for extended periods of time
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems
  • Basic working knowledge of electronics
  • Experience in PLC's
  • Previous experience with ship and/or port cranes, winches

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of hydraulic and electrical equipment
  • Supervise and perform the refurbishment, upgrades, inspections, preventative maintenance and corrective actions
  • Identify service and spares sales opportunities and communicate them to the line manager to support all activities
  • To support Service overall goals and budgets
  • Preparing detailed service reports and documentation for all work performed
  • Ensure that all activities comply with the Integrated Management System (IMS), QHSE and other rules and requirements according to MacGregor standards
