About The Position

The Narrator is a friendly and upbeat individual who provides excellent customer service and enjoys interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. This role involves learning and delivering a narration script that includes accurate historical information about the port. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging passengers with informative tours, greeting and bidding farewell to guests, providing directions to local points of interest, and participating in safety drills. The Narrator will also cooperate with the captain and crew, communicate effectively with other departments, and perform additional assigned duties. Requirements

  • Ability to learn and memorize historical information, and to deliver an engaging “story-like” tour.
  • Ability to express history, facts, anecdotes in a clear and coherent delivery style.
  • Ability to stay on your feet for lengthy periods of time.
  • Strong customer service, organization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, detailed oriented and meet deadlines.
  • Handle multiple tasks/projects at one time.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by job responsibility.
  • Listen effectively, assess the situation, determine relevant issues, & suggest solutions.
  • Have a working knowledge of computer skills, including but not limited to proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to coworkers and guests.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Will be required to be available for work nights, weekends and on all major holidays.

  • Performing or theatre experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the historical information for the narration and prepare your own "verbalization" of the tour of the port.
  • Deliver an engaging and informative tour on the vessel in front of the passengers.
  • Greet and interact with passengers in a friendly, courteous manner, with a smile, and bidding them farewell at the end of the cruise.
  • Provide directions to points of interest in the area, such as historical sites, restaurants, tourist attractions, transportation etc.
  • Take part in safety drills and work in cooperation with the captain and crew of the vessel.
  • Communicate clearly with other departments and personnel.
  • Additional job duties assigned.
