About The Position

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses, and familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations. This is a full-time onsite position at the USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD. Travel up to 10% is anticipated for ship checks. The role primarily involves desk/computer work in an office environment, but may include periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments, traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches), and repetitive motion. Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is required, which necessitates being a U.S. citizen.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
Proficient with common productivity software.
Strong communications skills.
Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is Required.
Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
Conduct trade studies.
