This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List, which can be used to fill current and future Marine Mechanic positions, as well as similar and/or lower-level classifications. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is a large organization providing law enforcement services focused on public safety. The Harbor Patrol/Marine Operations Bureau provides law enforcement, marine firefighting, and search/rescue services along the Orange County coastline and harbors. The Marine Operations fleet consists of fireboats and patrol boats, which are maintained "in-house" by skilled marine mechanics and craftsmen. The maintenance staff includes one supervisor, four marine mechanics, two marine painters, and one marine carpenter. The Marine Mechanics perform journey-level work in installing, maintaining, and repairing marine inboard and outboard gasoline engines and propulsion equipment, as well as maintaining and repairing fire pumps and other mechanical equipment.
