About The Position

The Health and Inclusion Specialist maintains health records, trains and mentors Day Camp staff on inclusion, and develops behavior plans to ensure a safe and equitable environment for campers. Marine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities for campers include kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and swimming. Due to the nature and number of aquatic activities, every staff member at Marine Landing is required to be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins, if needed. This camp is the perfect location for those who have a strong comfort in the water, want to spend their summer outside and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime. The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age as stated by the LA County Children’s Camp Guidelines.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 15, 2026 - August 21, 2026) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.
  • Must hold valid American Red Cross “Lifeguarding with CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Waterfront Skills” certification throughout the position’s employment dates listed. Training will be available.
  • Must have documented experience teaching or interacting with youth programs.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, standing, and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing with some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check

  • College credits in health, child development, education, psychology, or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care to meet the diverse needs of campers and staff.
  • Supervise and provide care (including administering medication) for both staff and campers seeking medical attention.
  • Conduct comprehensive health screenings by verifying medical history and assessing signs of illness or communicable diseases.
  • Ensure the inclusion of all campers including those with physical, emotional, behavioral, or developmental disabilities.
  • Plan and coordinate the camp snack menu.
  • Provide camp staff with weekly camper reports to raise awareness of campers’ needs and accommodations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for campers.
  • Ensure camper health examinations are current and on file.
  • Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatments and medication requirements.
  • Ensure supplies are well-stocked and distributed as needed.
  • Review daily health logs and report significant injuries or health concerns to the Outdoor Program Supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate files for each camper including health forms, permission slips, and child release forms.
  • Provide timely statistical and attendance reports of day camp participants.
  • Lead Extended Care programs for campers.
  • Function as an Acting Director during the camp’s Before Care (6:45am-8:00am) or After Care (4:30-6:00pm) programs.
  • Create and implement extended care program activities for campers who require supervision outside of traditional camp hours.
  • Provide a safe and enjoyable program that complies with GSGLA, state, and industry standards.
  • Adhere to all safety and security protocols and ensure protocols are followed by camp staff.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to families.
  • Be an inspiring role model by communicating clearly, building strong relationships, encouraging inclusivity, connecting with others, and motivating youth.
  • Participate as a member of the camp administrative team by supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the camp operations.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
  • Share observations and improvement suggestions to the Outdoor Program Supervisor relating to camp program and staff performance.
  • Participate in supporting evening programs, special events, and other activities or functions involving the entire camp.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • Attend, participate in, and lead staff meetings as required.
  • Assist where needed with camper “check-in” and “check-out”.
  • Act as lifeguard during waterfront activities to ensure camper safety.
  • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to camp standards.
  • Understand and implement appropriate response to changes in water or weather conditions affecting the waterfront.
  • Facilitate swim tests to evaluate swimming abilities of campers and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
