About The Position

The Camp Counselor - Lifeguard participates in the implementation of high-quality Girl Scout programming, serves as primary caregiver for campers during sessions, and ensures the safety of campers during land and water-based activities. Marine Landing Day Camp Marine Landing is a waterfront facility with its own private beach. Daily activities for campers include kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding and swimming. Due to the nature and number of aquatic activities, every staff member at Marine Landing is required to be lifeguard certified. Training is provided before camp begins, if needed. This camp is the perfect location for those who have a strong comfort in the water, want to spend their summer outside and make friends and memories that will last a lifetime. The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or be a high school graduate by the start of camp.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks of day camp (June 15, 2026 - August 21, 2026) and training dates that will be scheduled prior to camp.
  • Must hold valid American Red Cross “Lifeguarding with CPR/AED For the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Waterfront Skills” certification throughout the position’s employment dates listed. Training will be available.
  • Must submit a basic health history form as set by the American Camping Association.
  • Ability to spend time sitting, utilizing the computer, standing, and walking throughout the facilities.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds periodically.
  • Must possess endurance including prolonged standing with some bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Comply with state-mandated reporter training
  • Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
  • Must successfully complete a Live Scan and background check

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers throughout camp to ensure program goals are met.
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Be alert to campers’ needs to assist them with personal and/or health problems and discuss with camp supervisors when appropriate.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to families.
  • Be an inspiring role model by communicating clearly, building strong relationships, encouraging inclusivity, connecting with others, and motivating youth.
  • Implement program activities within the GSGLA mission and goals.
  • Lead and support activity instruction.
  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Facilitate the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Assist in the set up, break down, and maintenance of activity equipment.
  • Participate in supporting evening programs, special events, and other activities or functions involving the entire camp as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and weekly in-service skills trainings as required.
  • Assist where needed with camper “check-in” and “check-out”.
  • Provide evaluations when requested by the Outdoor Program Supervisor.
  • Share observations and suggest improvements to the Outdoor Program Supervisor related to camp programming.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and security protocols.
  • Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Act as lifeguard during waterfront activities to ensure camper safety.
  • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to camp standards.
  • Understand and implement appropriate response to changes in water or weather conditions affecting the waterfront.
  • Facilitate swim tests to evaluate swimming abilities of campers and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned
