The General Laborer / Yard Helper performs a wide range of manual and support tasks throughout the shipyard, with a primary focus on yard operations—keeping the vessel, work areas, and yard clean, organized, and safe. The position moves, stages, and rigs material and equipment to support production, and assists shipfitters, welders, and other trades by gathering tools, pulling leads and equipment, and lending a hand with measuring, lifting, and positioning components. When assigned, the helper may place tacks on structural components that have been fit by the shipfitter and are awaiting welding. This is an entry-level, hands-on role that keeps the yard running and supports the trades wherever they are needed. Employees are often required to perform jobs beyond the essential functions of their primary position. These may include—but are not limited to—assisting other employees in cleaning and removing debris from areas where work is performed, partnering with coworkers to complete work under tighter deadlines, and temporarily filling in for an absent employee.
