About The Position

Boatswain’s Locker is a family-owned and industry-leading marine engine sales and service company. Since 1939 we have supplied and supported premier marine products to boat builders, dealers, and end-users of recreational, commercial, and government boats throughout Western North America, Hawaii, and Mexico. Our primary products include Yanmar Engines, Kohler Marine Generators, Hamilton Waterjets, COX Diesel Outboards, MerCruiser Engines, Mercury Outboards, and Steyr Motors. We are rapidly growing our business and building our future Team, a Team guided by the Core Values of Integrity, Trust, Honesty, Teamwork, Accountability, and Quality. Our Service Department needs to expand its team with the addition of experienced technicians. This role involves servicing, repairing, and installing marine engines, generators, transmissions, sterndrives, waterjets, and related equipment in vessels, performed both in our shop and in the field. Extensive product-specific training is provided, with exposure to many interesting and sometimes complex applications. Experience is required and you must have your own tools. A service vehicle is provided and business-related expenses are reimbursed.

Requirements

  • Min. three (3) years of experience servicing and repairing gasoline and/or diesel inboard marine engines, generators, outboards, sterndrives, waterjets, transmissions, and related systems
  • Computer knowledge and experience with engine diagnostic software
  • Current professional technical factory certifications with name-brand marine engine products
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license
  • Must have your own tools

Responsibilities

  • Independently repair and service the products Boatswain's Locker represents
  • Diagnose and repair sometimes complex problems
  • Properly utilize technical information as well as installation and application guidelines
  • Independently install and test equipment on vessels in compliance with factory specifications
  • Provide technical support in a professional and timely manner
  • Work in a team environment
  • Travel as needed both domestically and internationally
  • Attend service and product training as required (paid for by the Company)
  • Configure and recommend equipment as per customer requests
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization
