About The Position

This position is part of the Marine Assurance team whose mission is to manage marine risk associated with 3rd party tankers, inland and offshore vessels, marine terminals, and their associated operators. The purpose is to add value to our customers business through safe, reliable, and efficient marine transportation solutions. The role involves managing vetting and clearance for all 3rd party vessels, leading inspections of vessels and terminals, and assessing their suitability for marine transactions. The position requires extensive knowledge of the work function and detailed knowledge of related functions and Chevron/industry practices. This role typically has corporate and industry impact and high complexity.

Requirements

  • Marine industry background
  • 10+ years Senior navigation or engineering officer Certificate of Competency with sailing experience and / or equivalent industry experience with associated bachelor’s degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills demonstrating the ability to converse effectively and diplomatically with multinational audience.
  • Ability to travel for company or industry meetings, SME support, incident investigations.
  • Physical ability to inspect vessels and terminals.

  • Familiarity with applicable marine standards and regulations
  • Familiarity with Auditing practices
  • Jones act tug/barge experience

Responsibilities

  • Manages vetting and clearance for all 3rd party vessels.
  • Leads inspection of vessels and terminals.
  • Assesses and determines suitability of vessels, vessel operating companies and terminals for the intended marine transaction and work scope.
  • Provides marine risk assurance subject matter expertise to improve safety and reliability of marine operations.
  • Leads major cross-functional projects.
  • Provide marine risk expertise across a range of vessel / terminal types and associated operators.
  • Conduct vessel / terminal /operator engagements, inspections, and audits.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for incidents with subsequent review of Incident Investigations reports and take appropriate follow up actions.
  • Manage relationships with commercial, regulatory, 3rd party and internal customers.
  • Monitor performance of assigned term vessels including building relationships with vessel senior officers, reviewing port state and SIRE inspections, reviewing any terminal feedback etc.
  • Provide feedback and suggestion for MA Process and tool improvements.
  • Lead marine initiatives and marine risk projects involving multiple stakeholders at direction of Company.
  • Participate in emergency response and training exercises if needed.
  • Participate in industry advocacy roles, publication working groups as appointed.
  • Ability to work as in individual contributor and part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively work with Superintendents / vetting specialists globally.
  • Be a safety conscious leader with strong commitment to operational excellence and Chevron’s We Lead principles.
  • Be able to achieve fluency in the use Chevron proprietary system Port and Vessel information system (PAVIS) with the expectation to jump in the queue when needed.
