About The Position

Carter Machinery Company is seeking an Apprentice Marine Shop and Field Technician for its Ocean City, Maryland location. This 15-month program provides training and development to equip individuals with the skills to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform mechanical repairs and overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems. Upon completion, apprentices are expected to have a solid understanding of electrical, marine engine, and propulsion system fundamentals and be fully accredited under the Department of Labor Apprenticeship program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of post-secondary diesel engine or related program or two years of mechanical job experience required.
  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Excellent customer satisfaction skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment required.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed.
  • Must be self-directed, organized, able to interact with coworkers, and work as an integral part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize workload while providing excellent customer service.
  • Must be able to work all shifts and overtime as needed to meet customer needs.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Military equipment experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in the use and application of all CAT electronic tools and software, such as SIS, ET, etc. preferred but training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Perform standard mechanical repairs and complete overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems.
  • Prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and time cards accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
  • Promote a positive customer experience.
