About The Position

This part-time position is responsible for assisting the Dockmaster in overseeing the overall operation of the marina. The role requires the ability to handle most marina operations independently and involves collecting fees, assigning dockage and anchorage, operating pump and tender services, coordinating reservations, and assisting with the maintenance and care of marina facilities. The attendant will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the marina, grounds, and restrooms, and assisting boaters with docking and departing. Surveillance of the marina and vessels is also a key duty. This role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with the public, co-workers, and other city personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some experience in marina or boating operation.
  • Some experience in customer service.
  • Ability to perform work under the general direction of the Dockmaster.
  • Ability to handle most operations at the marina without supervision.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of file and records management principles.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of basic power tools.
  • Knowledge or the ability to learn boating/marina terminology and basic knowledge of dock regulations.
  • Skills in basic boat handling.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to swim.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dockmaster in overseeing the overall operation of the marina.
  • Handle most operations at the marina without supervision.
  • Collect fees and assign dockage and anchorage.
  • Safely operate pump and tender operations as required.
  • Assist with coordinating reservations and accepting fees in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist the Dockmaster with the care of docks, buildings, facilities, and grounds, ensuring all safety procedures are followed.
  • Maintain constant clean-up of the marina, buildings, grounds, docks, and public and boater restrooms.
  • Empty trash containers and pick up trash, cigarette butts, and other rubbish.
  • Exercise expertise in customer and public relations.
  • Assist in docking or departing vessels, and provide information on conditions, berths, and procedures.
  • Maintain surveillance of the marina and vessels arriving, staying, or departing.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of floating docks and gangways.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
