About The Position

This position is for a Marching Band Assistant who will work to engage all levels of marching band students and promote musicianship. The goal is to enhance student learning, improve the overall quality of the band, and maximize educational opportunities for each child. The assistant will develop students' musical potential, starting with basic fundamentals and progressing to advanced skills. This role requires a thorough knowledge of athletic policies, the ability to form positive professional relationships, and an enthusiastic attitude towards working with intermediate and high school students. Cooperation with other programs and a willingness to work during the summer, weekends, and other times as needed are essential. Additional duties may be requested by administration.

Requirements

  • Marching Band performance experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience working with junior high and/or high school youth
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Iowa City Board of Education
  • Must possess an enthusiastic attitude and ability to understand intermediate and high school students in a band setting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop musicians to their fullest potential, starting with teaching basic fundamentals and progressing to skills beyond what is considered average.
  • Work to form a positive professional relationship with students, teachers, parents and audience.
  • Willing to work in the summer, on weekends, and at other allowable times in order to maintain a quality program.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties as requested by administration.
  • Willing to work cooperatively with other programs.
