The AOI and AXI Technician supports the setup, operation, and maintenance of AOI and AXI equipment within SMT (Surface Mount Technology) and final assembly production lines. This role focuses on program adjustments, troubleshooting, and supporting production to ensure high-quality PCB and PCBA output with minimal defects and false calls.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience (Bachelor’s preferred).
  • 2–3 years of experience in AOI and AXI inspection within a PCB/PCBA manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Hands-on experience with AOI and AXI equipment (Vitrox or similar).
  • Familiarity with Bill of Materials, PCB drawings, and PCBA documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Load and run AOI and AXI inspection programs for SMT and final assembly boards.
  • Adjust and fine-tune AOI and AXI and parameters to reduce false calls and missed defects.
  • Update existing programs to reflect process changes and ECOs.
  • Maintain AOI and AXI libraries for efficient and consistent program usage.
  • Assist in training AOI and AXI operators on inspection processes and proper use of equipment.
  • Monitor defect and false call trends, providing feedback for immediate corrective actions.
  • Support NPI builds by preparing and validating AOI and AXI programs.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on AOI and AXI equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor hardware and software issues.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory for AOI and AXI systems.
  • Collaborate with Quality Control to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of recurring defects.
  • Provide input on process improvements to enhance product quality and inspection efficiency.
