About The Position

IFF is a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients, and health & biosciences, delivering sustainable innovations that elevate everyday products. This role is based in Clackamas, OR, and is part of the IFF Health & Biosciences team. The position involves leading the Manufacturing Technology function at a large-scale industrial biotechnology site, managing project portfolios and team performance. The role requires developing and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team, translating goals into actionable initiatives, and prioritizing multiple projects. Support for operations includes providing robust process, equipment, and automation design solutions, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. Continuous improvement initiatives to increase capacity, enhance product quality, support safety, and reduce costs are key. Collaboration with site capital and automation teams for resource alignment and long-term master planning is expected. Partnering with business leaders and Process Research and Development for new product and process implementation is also a responsibility. The role contributes to global strategies as part of the Health and Biosciences Manufacturing Technology leadership community. The position requires the ability to be physically present at the job location for the designated work schedule, train others, participate in task forces, problem-solve effectively, and maintain collaborative working relationships. Successful completion of job-related tests and certifications for a cGMP, quality environment is mandatory, with annual requalification required. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight years of engineering experience, preferably in industrial or biochemical processing.
  • Proven experience in team leadership or project management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of industrial biotechnology processes, including fermentation, downstream processing, and both liquid and solid formulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple locations, functions, and business divisions.
  • Strong decision-making, prioritization, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with confidence in engaging senior leadership.
  • Solid financial and business acumen, including experience in project justification and budgeting.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Familiar with Microsoft applications such as MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to take initiative and build strong productive relationships.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • A legal right to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a drug screen and a background check in accordance with HWP standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Manufacturing Technology function at a large-scale industrial biotechnology site, managing both project portfolios and team performance.
  • Develop and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team through goal setting, performance reviews, coaching, and recognition.
  • Translate Health and Biosciences Manufacturing Technology and Operations goals into actionable departmental initiatives.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects, ensuring effective communication with internal stakeholders, business leaders, and the global Manufacturing Technology organization.
  • Support operations by providing robust process, equipment, and automation design solutions, including proactive troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase capacity, enhance product quality, support safety enhancements, and reduce operational costs.
  • Collaborate with site capital and automation teams to align resources and develop the site’s long-term master plan.
  • Partner with business leaders and the Process Research and Development team to implement new products and process changes.
  • Contribute to global strategies and initiatives as a member of the Health and Biosciences Manufacturing Technology leadership community.
  • Ability to be at the physical location of the job for the designated work schedule.
  • Will be asked to train someone and/or participate in a task force to improve company procedures or operations.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Must be able to successfully pass all job-related tests and certifications required for working in a cGMP, quality environment including but not limited to: inspections and GMP requirements to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Must re-qualify every year on all job-related tests and certifications as job or qualifications require.
