About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Technician – Level 1 to join their team in Charlotte, NC. This position is 100% onsite. SYNOPTICS, an organization within Northrop Grumman, is a leader in the growth, fabrication, and coating of crystalline materials used in laser systems. These crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has over 60 years of experience in the laser industry and is known for high-quality products and timely deliveries. The facility grows solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals from a high-temperature melt and has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries, serving the global photonics and optics industry.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
No clearance required to start
Experience with standard hand tools and measuring devices including calipers and rulers
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
Must have computer experience and be able to work with spreadsheets

Nice To Haves

Associates degree in a technical discipline
Strong aptitude in basic math and science disciplines including physics and chemistry
Crystal growth experience
Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

Collaborate within a technical team comprised of engineers, welders, and maintenance staff to perform daily tasks associated with the production of oxide and fluoride single crystals grown from the melt in high-temperature furnaces.
Build and monitor crystal growth furnaces.
Read and interpret engineering blueprints and assemble furnace builds based on that information.
Weigh and mix raw materials.
Operate crystal growth furnaces.
Monitor data and graphs.
Harvest and evaluate final crystal products.
Prepare raw materials used in the process.
Harvest and inspect crystals.
