About The Position

The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions for the broader communications industry, serving both carrier and enterprise networks. This role provides first, second, and third level troubleshooting of equipment and process issues in a manufacturing facility, working hands-on with manufacturing equipment and activities. The position involves identifying and supporting process improvements, using judgment, experience, and initiative to resolve problems and make recommendations.

Requirements

  • Two year electrical/mechanical/or controls technical degree preferred (Associates) OR High school diploma and 7+ years manufacturing experience.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and pneumatic controls including use of test equipment.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting and repair of simple to complex mechanical equipment.
  • Familiarity with sensors, thermocouples (TCs), switches, motors, and actuators.
  • Ability to read/understand electrical, mechanical drawings, and machine specifications.
  • Familiarity with PLC fundamentals as well as to work through logic for troubleshooting.
  • Computer literate and understands Microsoft windows to locate files, edit, save, transfer, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Capable of using Diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic understanding of PLC and/or Equipment Automation.
  • PC - Data Analysis (Pl, etc.) - Capable of using a computer to plot and analyze data.
  • Familiar with 2D/3D CAD modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for comprehensive electrical/controls/mechanical/equipment troubleshooting of production equipment issues.
  • Monitor area performance, identify equipment/process issues, and follow issues to closure.
  • Simultaneously manage and troubleshoot multiple issues using sound technical principles to drive resolution, prioritizing based on overall plant needs.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance and equipment upkeep efforts.
  • Direct maintenance personnel in repairs, maintenance, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with training on new processes/equipment and procedural changes.
  • Work with operators, other support technicians, engineers, and trades to coordinate and direct equipment startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
  • Contribute to keeping production teams current on processes, equipment, and procedures.
  • Reference supporting documentation to complete tasks and report documentation discrepancies.
  • Develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment to production and support groups.
  • Assist engineers in the design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified production equipment.
  • Maintain systems and actions necessary for compliance with department certification programs, quality system audit program, and ISO 14000 registration.
  • Champion a safe work environment and enforce housekeeping and safety regulations.
  • Participate on a trained spill team for Glass Making areas, including monthly spill drills and projects related to Process and Equipment changes, Safety improvement, Lean manufacturing, and Workforce development.
  • Fill in for Shift Supervisor as needed.
  • Receive training in technical SME areas on new processes/equipment and/or procedural changes.
