About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career. As a Production Supervisor at the Cottage Grove, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. This role involves guiding activities and personnel to achieve the safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste in an environmentally conscious and productive manner. You will cultivate and lead a team by encouraging and implementing cross-training activities, cooperation, innovation, flexibility, and teamwork. The role includes scheduling work priorities consistent with engineering directives, coordinating maintenance activities, allocating work assignments, communicating expectations, and monitoring workflow. You will also provide coaching and feedback to employees and utilize corrective action to resolve conflict and inappropriate behaviors. Additionally, you will train employees on all aspects of the Cottage Grove operations and processes, ensuring they have the proper tools, equipment, and information. A key aspect is ensuring a safe work environment by reviewing production processes, OSHA requirements, and recognizing and resolving safety-related problems, as well as ensuring employees receive and maintain required training and certifications. Effective communication with employees through crew meetings, electronic mail, and 1:1 coaching sessions is essential. Regular housekeeping audits and job safety analyses are required. You will resolve process, maintenance, equipment, and technical problems by utilizing available resources, monitor and remediate process equipment downtime while maintaining safe operating limits, and analyze statistical data to identify trends and improvement plans. Communicating and following up on safety, productivity, quality, and maintenance concerns with appropriate staff, and generating work requests and entering incident reports are also part of the role. This position requires advanced working knowledge and interpretation of corporate and site policies and procedures, and ensuring shift administrative activities such as time reporting, attendance control, vacation planning, and overtime are properly implemented and documented. Participation in assigned team functions and projects, and understanding of DOT and Hazardous Material Regulations are expected. You will also be an active member of the site Emergency E-squad activities. This position requires working on a rotating shift (nights/weekends/holidays).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and a minimum of two (2) years of combined experience working in a manufacturing or production environment in a private, public, government or military setting.
  • OR High School diploma/GED or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and a minimum of four (4) years of combined experience working in a manufacturing or production environment in a private, public, government or military setting.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: project leadership, team leadership, supervisory, and/or management.

  • Completing housekeeping audits and job safety analysis on a regular basis.
  • Utilizing available resources to resolve process, maintenance, equipment and/or related technical problems.
  • Monitoring and remediating process equipment downtime while maintaining safe operating limits.
  • Analyzing and interpreting statistical data and charts to identify trends and determine improvement plans.
  • Communicating and following-up on safety, productivity, quality, and maintenance concerns with appropriate staff.
  • Generating work requests and entering incident reports in accordance with established procedures.
  • Implementing advanced working knowledge and interpretation of corporate and site policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring shift administrative activities such as time reporting, attendance control, vacation planning, overtime, etc. are properly implemented and documented.
  • Participating in assigned team functions and projects.
  • Understanding of DOT and Hazardous Material Regulations.
  • Being an active member and participating in site Emergency E-squad activities.
  • Complying with corporate policies, procedures and security standards while performing assigned duties.
