About The Position

nLIGHT is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Supervisor II to lead swing-shift production operations in our fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for creating a safe and inclusive workplace, developing employees, and achieving safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity goals. As the primary operations leader during assigned swing-shift hours, the Manufacturing Supervisor II provides timely direction, resolves production constraints, coordinates resources across functions and shifts, and leads sustainable continuous-improvement efforts. This position works onsite at nLIGHT’s Camas, Washington facility and partners closely with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Equipment, Human Resources, and other support teams.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of manufacturing leadership experience with responsibility for directing employees, managing performance, and achieving operational goals.
  • Five or more years of experience in a high-volume or technically complex manufacturing environment, with increasing responsibility and demonstrated hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of comparable size and operational complexity.
  • Experience monitoring production metrics, assessing performance gaps, and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, standard work, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Experience resolving manufacturing constraints and coordinating effectively across Operations, Engineering, Quality, Equipment, and other support functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach employees, provide clear feedback, manage conflict, and apply policies and expectations consistently.
  • Strong written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe workplace and reinforcing safe behaviors, quality standards, and procedural compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work onsite during the assigned swing-shift schedule and provide additional coverage outside regular hours when required by business needs.
  • Ability to work in cleanroom and ESD-controlled environments where products are fabricated, assembled, and tested.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, operations, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Leadership experience in semiconductor, photonics, optics, electronics, precision-fabrication, or other advanced manufacturing operations.
  • Hands-on experience with assembly, precision fabrication, product-quality testing, or cleanroom manufacturing.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience using an enterprise resource planning, manufacturing execution, or production-reporting system.

Responsibilities

  • Leads swing-shift production operations and serves as the primary escalation point for a team of approximately 20 or more manufacturing specialists, leads, technicians, and other production employees.
  • Maintains a safe, inclusive, and compliant workplace by reinforcing safe work practices; addressing hazards; supporting incident investigations; and ensuring adherence to company policies, manufacturing procedures, quality-system requirements, cleanroom and ESD protocols, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reviews production priorities, staffing, equipment status, material availability, and constraints; adjusts resources and workflow to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, yield, throughput, labor-efficiency, scrap, rework, and schedule-attainment goals.
  • Coordinates across production areas, departments, and shifts to resolve manufacturing, equipment, material, and quality constraints and ensures accurate, timely shift handoffs and follow-up.
  • Assigns work, communicates priorities and results, leads daily manufacturing meetings, and holds employees accountable for performance, attendance, quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Builds team capability through recruiting, onboarding, qualification planning, cross-training, coaching, recognition, performance reviews, career development, and succession planning using nLIGHT’s Skill, Will, and Fit framework.
  • Addresses attendance, conduct, employee complaints, conflict, and corrective action consistently and in partnership with Operations leadership and Human Resources; reviews and approves time and attendance records accurately and on time.
  • Leads structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement efforts using Lean manufacturing, 5S, root-cause analysis, value-stream mapping, standard work, and continuous-flow principles to improve processes, equipment performance, product quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Supports staffing and capacity planning and performs other duties to meet production and business needs as assigned.
