About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Manufacturing Specialist to support 2nd Shift operations at our Mechanical Manufacturing Facility (MMF). This role provides direct technical support to production, ensuring manufacturing processes are executed effectively while maintaining production flow and quality requirements. This role is intended for a highly experienced manufacturing professional or technician who operates as the primary technical resource on shift, with strong hands-on experience resolving production issues in real time. This position operates in a high-mix, precision machining environment supporting complex defense programs and requires strong technical judgement, practical problem-solving ability, and the ability to work across Production, Quality, CNC Programming, and Engineering teams to resolve manufacturing challenges. This role supports 2nd Shift operations (Monday–Thursday, 4x10 schedule) with flexibility to support Friday operations as business needs require.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of relevant experience or equivalent education of education and experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Experience supporting CNC machining environments (3-axis, 5-axis, mill-turn, or lathe operations).
  • Experience working directly with machinists, welders, inspectors, and production personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and configuration control.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as the primary technical resource on shift with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Solumina MES, Costpoint ERP, and/or Windchill PLM.
  • Experience supporting complex machining operations, including multi-axis or tight tolerance components.
  • Experience with nonconformance resolution and shop floor problem-solving.
  • Exposure to Siemens NX or similar systems for basic program understanding or support.
  • Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or structured problem-solving methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact on shift, supporting production and maintaining throughput.
  • Ensure adherence to released work instructions, drawings, MBOM structures, and quality requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining, fabrication, and assembly issues in real time to prevent production disruption.
  • Coordinate with shift supervision to prioritize work and address immediate production needs.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineering, CNC Programming, and Manufacturing Engineering to resolve issues and maintain flow.
  • Identify gaps in planning, tooling, or instructions and implement practical, immediate solutions to keep production moving.
  • Support containment actions and participate in root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities.
  • Communicate and document production issues for follow-up with engineering, quality, and planning teams.
  • Maintain discipline in configuration control and documentation accuracy within production systems.
  • When NC Programmer is unavailable, support minor program adjustments (as capable) to prevent disruption; escalate complex changes appropriately.
