About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking skilled Shop Supervisors to manage day-to-day operations in their manufacturing facility. The role involves overseeing department operations, managing employee performance, ensuring safety protocols, and driving process improvements. This position requires a strong leader with experience in manufacturing environments, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent and active presence on the shop floor, spending approximately 2/3 of the shift overseeing operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
  • Proficiency in performance management processes, including creating plans of action and conducting employee evaluations.
  • Highly detail-oriented, ensuring quality and precision in all tasks and responsibilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the shift.
  • Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English and complete logs, documents, and reports accurately.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: welding, metal fabrication, or machining, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures.
  • Oversee employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support team development and productivity.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new employees, as well as provide ongoing education and skill development for the team.
  • Expedite and prioritize shop orders through the department to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly processes.
  • Ensure the team maintains machines and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner, addressing safety concerns promptly.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
  • Address and resolve production or personnel issues promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.
