About The Position

As part of Apple’s Manufacturing Design team, the Manufacturing Quality Engineer leads the development of quality processes for new parts and helps define quality, metrology, and process requirements. The role also contributes to designing new manufacturing processes from the ground up, enabling the scalable production of products that meet Apple’s design and quality expectations. The engineer partners with tooling and functional teams during concept development, develops measurement technologies and quality inspection tools, and evaluates data to establish process and part specifications. The role balances quality with scalable yields, coordinates quality engineering activities across multiple programs, collaborates with internal and external teams, and ensures suppliers and programs align with Apple quality standards. It also includes evaluating and communicating yields, driving corrective actions, expanding team capabilities, and recruiting engineers. International travel to supplier sites is required, approximately 30%.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of hands-on manufacturing experience, supplier management, and quality control experience, including manufacturing quality statistical analysis, GD&T, metrology, or design of experiments.
  • Ability to travel internationally to supplier sites, approximately 30%.
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, such as Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing/Systems, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field such as Industrial Technology or Materials Science.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mechanical enclosures, castings, plastic parts, injection molding, stamping, tooling, jigs, fixtures, or automotive high-volume quality manufacturing engineering.
  • International experience, particularly in Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with tooling and functional teams to evaluate designs and processes during the concept phase.
  • Develop measurement technologies, control strategies, information systems, and manufacturing methods to meet specifications at production scale.
  • Develop and implement quality inspection tools for evaluating cosmetic and dimensional part characteristics.
  • Compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process and part specifications.
  • Lead activities to balance quality with scalable yields.
  • Collaborate with internal and external groups to define quality expectations and appropriate assurance techniques for products.
  • Coordinate and prioritize quality engineering functions across multiple programs for team members.
  • Expand the capabilities of the team and recruit new engineers.
  • Establish program- and supplier-appropriate audit procedures to ensure alignment with Apple quality standards.
  • Evaluate and communicate yields of new and existing processes.
  • Drive corrective actions with internal and external team members.
