About The Position

Delva Tool & Machine is undergoing a transformation to move from tribal knowledge to documented, repeatable, technology-backed processes at its D1 facility. This role is responsible for mapping the current state, identifying gaps, and implementing improvements, starting with core SKUs. The company manufactures tight-tolerance precision components for aerospace and defense customers, holding tolerances to ±0.0002" across various alloys. The facility is equipped with Vertical Mills, Lathes, Swiss Lathes, and Mazak 5-axis horizontals with robotic loaders and automated pallet systems, operating on two shifts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on work experience in a precision machining environment).
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Hands-on familiarity with CNC machining operations and supporting process documentation (work instructions, MPPs, inspection plans).
  • Methodical, organized approach to documentation, with the ability to keep it current and build systems for others to follow.
  • Comfortable working in a regulated environment, including ITAR data handling and quality management system requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DNC systems, spindle monitoring software, RFID-based tooling management, or ERP implementation in a machining environment.
  • Industrial engineering background with formal process improvement or workflow design experience.
  • AS9100 or aerospace/defense program experience, including FAI, source inspection, or audit support.
  • Management or team lead experience.
  • Familiarity with Mazak equipment or 5-axis horizontal machining workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate current-state workflows and build a gap analysis for DNC implementation, spindle monitoring software, RFID tooling management, and ERP process integration.
  • Develop and own manufacturing process plans (MPPs), work instructions, and quality control plans (QCPs) for assigned jobs, from first article through production.
  • Define and implement the workflow for an initial set of five to ten SKUs, ensuring complete process packages, specified tooling and fixturing, and confirmed floor-level execution.
  • Coordinate with Programming on job launches and with Quality on in-process inspection criteria, FAI planning, and non-conformance root cause investigations.
  • Identify and drive process improvement opportunities to reduce cycle time, improve yield, or lower cost, utilizing data from implemented monitoring and ERP systems.
  • Build and maintain process documentation in the document control system to ensure long-term accuracy and adherence.
