This is a 2nd Shift Opportunity, Monday - Friday, 3:30pm-11:30pm, with 8-hour shifts. This position is designed to provide individuals with little or no machining or grinding background the necessary skills to become a Certified Operator at Pratt & Whitney. Employees selected will attend a 3-week training program followed by 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. The role involves learning to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes, or VTCs for routine production operations on various weldments and assemblies. You will learn to interpret operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instructions to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring, and/or chamfering operations on a limited number of surfaces. A key part of the role is learning to verify finished work against specifications using precision measuring instruments and obtaining operator certification to accept or reject parts. Additionally, you will learn to maintain machines through required total preventive maintenance (TPM) and collaborate with engineers, quality assurance, programmers, and other production personnel to resolve machining issues and assist in part process development.
