About The Position

This is a 2nd Shift Opportunity, Monday - Thursday (4 - 10 hour shifts) from 3:30 PM to 1:30 AM. This position is designed to provide individuals with little or no machining or grinding background the skills necessary to become a Certified Operator at Pratt & Whitney. Employees will undergo a 3-week training program followed by 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. The role involves learning to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes, or VTCs for routine production operations on various weldments and assemblies. You will learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instructions to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring, and/or chamfering operations. A key part of the role is learning to verify the conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments and obtaining operator certification to accept/reject parts. Additionally, you will learn to maintain machines through required total preventive maintenance (TPM) and collaborate with engineers, quality assurance, programmers, and other production personnel to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development. Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is required.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • High School or GED

Responsibilities

  • Learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies.
  • Learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined.
  • Learn to verify conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Obtain operator Certification to be able to accept/reject parts.
  • Learn to maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM).
  • Learn to work collaboratively with engineers, quality assurance, programmers and other production personnel or others to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development.
