This is a 3rd Shift Opportunity, Monday - Friday (5 - 8 hour shifts) from 11:30 pm to 7:00 am, where employees work 7 hours and get paid for 8 hours. This position is designed to give individuals with little or no machining or grinding background the skills they need to become a Certified Operator at Pratt & Whitney. Employees selected for this position will attend a 3-week training program and participate in 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. The role involves learning to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes, or VTCs to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies. You will learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring, and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined. Additionally, you will learn to verify the conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments, obtain operator certification to accept/reject parts, maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM), and collaborate with engineers, quality assurance, programmers, and other production personnel to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development. The role requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
