About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking individuals to transform the future of flight by designing, building, and servicing engines. This is a weekend shift opportunity (Friday-Sunday, 3 x 12-hour shifts, 5:00 am-5:30 pm), where employees work 36 hours and get paid for 40. This position is designed to train individuals with little or no machining or grinding background to become Certified Operators. The role involves a 3-week training program followed by 4-8 weeks of on-the-job training. Employees will learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes, or VTCs to perform routine production operations on various weldments and assemblies. They will also learn to interpret operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instructions to set up equipment for machining operations, verify work using precision instruments, obtain operator certification, perform total preventive maintenance (TPM), and collaborate with engineers and other personnel to resolve machining problems and assist in process development. English proficiency is required.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English

Nice To Haves

  • 1 + years of manufacturing, automotive or related trade experience
  • Ability to make computations involving decimals and fractions
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Learn to set up and operate NC milling/grinding machines, vertical turret lathes or VTC’s to perform routine production operations on a variety of similar weldments and assemblies.
  • Learn to work from operation sheets, part travelers, BOROPS, and oral instruction to set up equipment for grinding, turning, facing, boring and/or chamfering operations involving a limited number of surfaces to be machined.
  • Learn to verify conformance of finished work to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
  • Obtain operator Certification to be able to accept/reject parts.
  • Learn to maintain machines by performing required total preventive maintenance (TPM).
  • Learn to work collaboratively with engineers, quality assurance, programmers and other production personnel or others to resolve machining problems and assist in part process development.
