About The Position

A.W. Chesterton is seeking a Manufacturing Operator III, a frontline manufacturing position responsible for producing Mechanical Packing material. This role requires a blend of mechanical maintenance skills, physical laboring abilities, and quality assurance. The operator will be responsible for operating various production equipment, measuring and checking raw materials for compliance, and maintaining accurate manufacturing records. Requirements

  • Ability to make decisions based on a set of predetermined parameters.
  • Ability to operate various machines.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written/verbal instructions and sequences of events.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. manually on a frequent basis, using supporting equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to wear a respirator as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to handle small sharp and/or specialized tools.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to operate a forklift if required for the role.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work well with others.
  • Ability to perform more than one function at a time.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate multiple work stations proficiently in the Braiding and/or Liveloading areas, including various types of braiding machines, winders, twisters, coating lines, coiling machines, sizing presses, and packaging lines.
  • Set up and efficiently run machinery following process specifications and work instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and fix basic to difficult machine problems, escalating more complex issues when necessary.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and correct complex product quality problems during the production process.
  • Use common hand tools for operating equipment, including cutting, measuring, and weighing equipment.
  • Operate a computer to execute order inquiries, cycle count adjustments, and other transactions.
  • Utilize business systems or other computer applications to complete daily tasks, run reports, and research problems.
  • Cross-train newer operators on multiple work centers.
  • Use various types of material handling equipment, potentially including becoming a licensed fork truck operator.
  • Assist Engineering with developing new products.
  • Assist Operations with finding the root cause of customer complaints or in-process quality problems.
  • Work under minimal supervision, handling complex issues and problems, and referring only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
