About The Position

Martin Sprocket & Gear is seeking skilled Manufacturing Leads for their 2nd shift. This role involves leading day-to-day production activities, supporting production flow, prioritizing jobs, and communicating effectively with operators and supervisors. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining concepts, experience with measuring devices, and the ability to troubleshoot and coordinate workflow. This position requires physical capability to handle heavy items and the ability to work in a non-climate-controlled shop environment. Requirements

  • Average math skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions written in English.
  • Ability to complete simple logs and reports in English.
  • Physically able to handle heavy items, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and positioning components.
  • Able to work scheduled hours and comply with the company’s timekeeping policy and all other company policies.
  • Able to consistently stand for an entire shift in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
  • Ability to learn fundamental machining concepts.
  • Proficiency in using measuring devices.
  • Ability to work closely with other team members, including supervisors, to optimize production processes and implement improvements.
  • Mechanical aptitude and general understanding of shop workflow.
  • Attention to detail is essential for maintaining quality standards.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to dependability and consistent performance.
  • Detail-oriented with the flexibility to respond effectively to shifting production demands.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CNC lathes, mills, saws, burn table, and secondary operations.
  • Experience using calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day production activity for 2nd shift.
  • Support production flow across machining and related shop operations.
  • Ensure prioritized work is moving and jobs stay on track for completion.
  • Communicate priorities clearly to operators and coordinate shift activities.
  • Work closely with the 2nd Shift Supervisor to align production needs and address issues.
  • Monitor job progress and communicate delays, equipment issues, material shortages, or quality concerns.
  • Support operators with day-to-day questions, basic troubleshooting, and workflow coordination.
  • Assist in maintaining smooth flow across CNC lathes, mills, saws, burn table, and secondary operations.
  • Monitor the production process to ensure machines function correctly and products meet quality standards.
  • Perform inspections and measurements of finished products to verify they meet specified tolerances and quality standards, using tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
  • Step into production work as needed to keep orders moving and support quick-turn commitments.
  • Provide support during shift handoff and help maintain continuity between shifts.
  • Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety regulations.
  • Use a crane or buddy system to maneuver large, awkward, or heavy parts.
  • Ensure that the work area is clean and organized.
  • Assist in other areas or departments as needed.
