About The Position

This part-time student opportunity is designed to give interns or youth apprentices (YA) a holistic view of what Metal Craft, located in Elk River, MN has to offer in a variety of departments. This paid learning opportunity is a minimum of 12-weeks. The Intern/YA will be provided hands-on learning and job shadowing experiences which will give the student an opportunity to develop skills to contribute to the success of the business. In this work-based experience, students will be assigned mentor(s) and/or trainer(s). Metal Craft, located in Elk River, MN is a precision machining company, and our overall company mission is to provide custom precision manufacturing and innovative services to medical, aviation, space, defense, and emerging high-tech industries. Requirements

  • High School Students 16+ years must be enrolled in CTE, Youth Apprentice or similar manufacturing program.
  • Students must be enrolled in the Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing or Industrial program.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in other areas on an as needed basis.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Job shadow in various departments such as but not limited to; Production, Quality, Engineering, Programming, Assembly, Finishing and Shipping departments.
  • Run machines and use a variety of hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • Perform simple setups and troubleshooting (only if supervised by full-time machinist mentor).
  • Check parts with hard gauging, various measurement tools and CMM.
  • Perform periodic quality checks as described in operation layouts.
  • Package, wash, and deburr as described in operation layouts or otherwise directed by full-time machinist mentor, engineer, or supervisor.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Intern will be responsible for the quality of the parts that he or she produces.
  • Op Layouts (assist with the completion of op layouts).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission, values, code of ethics, policies, and other standards of conduct.
