About The Position

General Motors (GM) is seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns for their 2027 Summer program. This is a hands-on role where interns will contribute directly to the company's bottom line by supporting manufacturing operations. Responsibilities include providing mechanical support for programs, learning to lead mechanical projects in various plant areas such as operations improvements and new/replacement programs, and offering technical support and direction to support personnel and skilled trades. The internship offers a practical learning experience in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechatronics.
  • Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029.
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Must be willing to work in a plant environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical root cause analysis and problem-solving.
  • Analyze product, process, and technology to determine optimal manufacturing methods.
  • Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment, or recommend improvements to existing processes.
  • Support maintenance personnel in the operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
  • Troubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problems.
  • Coordinate machinery upgrade projects.
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts), and drive vehicles and equipment.
