About IPSD Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary Kickstart your career in manufacturing! As a Manufacturing Engineering Technician I with Caterpillar, you will improve quality, velocity, safety, and cost by aiding the engineering department by providing hands-on technical support for CNC machining operations, working alongside engineers and production teams. You will troubleshoot machining issues, maintain tooling performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor. This role focuses on machining tooling adjustments, process troubleshooting, and supporting engineering-driven improvements to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience or a 2-year degree in lieu of experience
  • Experience reading blueprints and reviewing 3D models
  • Experience in assembly processes, best practices, test processes and validation to manufacture products
  • Experience with basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gauges)
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating or supporting CNC machining equipment in a production manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers
  • Demonstrated experience with CNC tooling setup, tool wear monitoring, offsets, and basic process adjustments
  • Familiarity with machining blueprints, GD&T, and inspection techniques
  • Previous experience interpreting Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection data
  • Intermediate level proficiency using ERP/PLM systems such as PLEX, Teamcenter, and MAMM system
  • Familiarity using data collection systems such as Quality WorX and Tools Talk
  • Ability to be a self-starter and the aptitude to learn

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical machining support on CNC equipment through data analysis, problem solving, and Caterpillar Production Systems (CPS)
  • Assist and provide support to process improvement teams to meet quality and productivity standards
  • Execute tooling adjustments, process corrections, and machine setup modifications required to resolve line calls and machining defects
  • Investigate and support resolution of machining-related defects and BIQ issues, working with engineering teams to determine root cause and corrective actions
  • Participate and support Engineers in Standard Work, SFMEA and PFMEA activities
  • Represent manufacturing engineering at Small Business Team and Go-&-See meetings
  • Assist in data collection and analysis related to machining performance, including cycle time, tool life, scrap trends, and process capability
  • Perform tooling inspections, gauge checks, and process verification to ensure machining processes conform to quality specifications
  • Edit work instructions for assembly as directed by the manufacturing engineers
  • Assist and provide feedback to team leaders including action plan follow up, use of 6 Sigma and lean manufacturing methodology and use of CPS
  • Follow standard operating procedures and area specific work instructions
  • Other duties as assigned
