About The Position

Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Specialist III with expertise in Composites (SME) to join their Operations Engineering team in Savannah. This role is responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing and engineering projects to resolve critical problems, requiring significant process restructuring, major technological advances, or extensive related development. The position involves providing and maintaining detailed work instructions, driving quality and efficiency improvements, managing daily work plans, providing performance metrics, and coordinating engineering and tooling changes to meet operational goals. The specialist will be responsible for entire manufacturing projects of major complexity, making authoritative technical decisions and recommendations that impact manufacturing activities and process development. They will also provide technical assistance and training to Operations Engineers, apply advanced technical principles to manufacturing projects affecting aircraft manufacture and performance, and lead the development of innovative manufacturing process ideas. The role requires independent action to optimize processes, cost, and schedule performance, working under consultative direction with independent judgment. The specialist will develop standards and guidelines for Operations Engineering activities and plan investigations into broad areas lacking manufacturing or engineering precedents critical to the program.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge in aerospace composite manufacturing required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 13 years in the specific technical discipline or 15 years broad engineering experience in several technical disciplines, or 11 years in the specific technical discipline with Masters degree, or 9 years in the specific technical discipline with PhD.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Nice To Haves

  • Composites experience preferred
  • Experience in Non-Distructive/ Ultra Sonic testing preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma/ Green Belt certification highly preferred
  • SAP/Solumina/Smarteam/CATIA experience preferred
  • Advanced degree in engineering or related curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and maintain detailed work instructions for the assigned manufacturing process.
  • Drive quality improvements, efficiency improvements, and material presentation enhancements.
  • Manage the daily work plan and provide metrics for quality and schedule performance.
  • Coordinate engineering and tooling changes as required to meet Operations goals.
  • Be responsible for an entire manufacturing project of major complexity aimed at process development or improvement.
  • Make technical decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive manufacturing activities or engineering projects related to manufacturing process development.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to Operations Engineers.
  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts based on broad expertise or unique specialized knowledge to manufacturing projects that affect the successful manufacture of the aircraft, installation of the systems, or performance of the aircraft.
  • Lead the development of innovative principles and ideas regarding manufacturing processes in use or that could be applied to existing processes.
  • Act independently to determine improved methods and/or procedures to optimize manufacturing processes, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for diverse Operations Engineering activities.
  • Conceive and plan investigation of broad areas of importance for which manufacturing or engineering precedents are lacking in areas critical to the program.
