About The Position

Smith+Nephew is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support the Manufacturing Engineering team at our Oklahoma City, OK facility. This internship provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing operations, process improvement, and engineering support activities within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and motivated to learn, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (PivotTables, formulas, data analysis)
- Ability to work independently on structured projects while collaborating cross-functionally
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Nice To Haves
- Exposure to SAP or other ERP systems
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes, cost structures, or Lean principles
- Experience with data analysis, process improvement, or engineering coursework/projects
Responsibilities
- Support Manufacturing Engineering projects focused on manufacturing variance (MUV), cost optimization, and productivity improvement
- Perform detailed analysis of SAP BOM and cost data to identify discrepancies, improvement opportunities, and standard cost alignment
- Assist in process mapping, data validation, and root cause analysis for manufacturing and cost variances
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to collect and interpret data
- Develop clear documentation and presentations summarizing findings, savings opportunities, and recommendations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives including Lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and standardization activities
- Participate in shop floor observations to connect data insights with actual manufacturing processes
