Manufacturing Engineering Co-op (Summer/Fall 2027)
About The Position
RTX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer Co-op to support its Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) business by driving process and digital improvements across the shop floor. The role offers hands-on experience applying Lean Six Sigma principles, data analytics, and engineering problem-solving to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. It is suited to an analytically minded, self-motivated engineering student interested in identifying inefficiencies, developing data-driven solutions, and implementing improvements in an aerospace environment. The co-op supports production-process improvement, digital tool development, workcell and material-flow optimization, documentation, continuous improvement events, and capacity analysis. The position is onsite in Haltom City, Texas, and requires 0–10% travel. U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under the program or contract. No security clearance is required.
Requirements
- Must be pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM major and remain actively enrolled through completion of the co-op session.
- Experience with Advanced Excel.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD for layout or fixture design.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement.
- Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Power BI, Power Automate, Python, SQL, VBA, or similar tools is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste in shop-floor processes.
- Collect, analyze, and visualize production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve throughput, turnaround time, and quality.
- Develop and implement digital solutions, including dashboards, automated reports, and workflow tools, to replace manual processes and improve real-time visibility.
- Support the design and optimization of workcell layouts, material flow, and standard work to increase efficiency and reduce cycle time.
- Partner with Operations, Quality, and Production Control teams to define problems, develop solutions, and implement and sustain changes.
- Create and update work instructions, process documentation, and visual management tools.
- Participate in and help facilitate continuous improvement events, kaizens, and 5S initiatives.
- Support capacity planning, time studies, and line-balancing analyses to inform staffing and equipment decisions.
- Track project progress and KPIs, and present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.
- Ensure process changes comply with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and help ensure the workplace is safe and free of significant hazards.
